Frequently Asked Questions
I
Q. What is the cost of repairing hail damaged vehicles?
A. From a ( PDR ) Paintless Dent Repair point of view, all dents have their challenges due to metal compositions and placement of dents.
For hail damaged vehicles depending on severity size and quantity, price can vary from a few hundred dollars to several thousands.

Q. Can you clarify hail damage?
A. Hail is caused by rain drops high in the atmosphere. During a storm, hail falls to the ground and can cause a great deal of destruction. Hail varies in size and can be any size from a few millimetres to much larger eg; cricket ball or bigger pending on severity of storm . Hail can be soft and mushy or a very solid piece of ice .
Q. How do you assess a hail damaged vehicle?
A. Sometimes it is difficult to see the damage outside in natural light, so its not until you stand in a certain angle or light that it shows a dent, then upon closer inspection you notice tiny dents peppered all over your car. The dents in this case would be roughly 5mm or less in size. This is assessed as light hail.
Depending how many are spread over ( Peppered ) the car panels would determine assessment and cost
EG: 0 - 5 mm dents (Small to Light hail dents)
5 - 10 mm dents (Small to Medium hail dents)
10 - 20 mm dents (Medium to Large hail dents)
20 - 30 mm dents (Large to Extra large hail dents)
30 mm and above (Excessive hail dents)
EG: (Peppered) Lightly peppered (just a few dents here and there on a panel)
Medium peppered (more than a few dents all over panel)
Heavily peppered (lots of dents all over panels)
Excessive (excessively spread all over panel)

So the case example above something difficult to see and could be assessed as :
Light hail damage and Lightly peppered - An average price to repair would be anything from a few hundred to several hundred dollars.
For Light hail, Heavily peppered cost could be any thing from several hundreds to few thousand dollars
Depending on the storm severity determines the dent size, position, quantity, and metal composition, they all play a part . There could be a dozen cars all parked next to each other and all would be affected differently.
For proper assessment, it is best to have a professional PDR Tech to scan your damaged vehicle in the right environment with the special lights we use for repairs, as this will show all the damage to the panels.

Q. How long does it take to repair a dent?
A. Most standard dents can be removed within an hour, pending position. Dents larger than standard will take extra time.
Large and extreme dents may take 3 to 4 hours or longer pending position and severity

Q. What is a standard dent?
A. A standard dent is any thing from a tiny pin head dent to credit card size
Q. Can metal stretch?
A. Yes most car make and models are made of different metal compositions from a soft mild steel alloy to spring steel or aluminium, even plastic panels. Some metals stretch very easily while others are fine.
EG: A deep dent with a sharp line has more chance of stretching in a softer metal

Q. In the photo gallery some dents appear that they need to go to a panel shop for the repair, is this the case?
A. It depends on what the customer is wanting …. a 100% repair or as best as possible . Some larger dents can be repaired to perfect
condition , others to near perfect . While some still would require a panel shop respray. In hard case or extreme scenarios a good PDR
Tech can at least save you the original panel and the panel shop would not need to use bog in the repair, at worst case some high fill.

Q. What about line dents?
A. Line dents are difficult but can be removed, it would depend on how sharp and deep and if it has already stretched the metal.

Q. Are really big dents harder to repair than smaller ones?
A. Not necessarily. Sometimes the smallest dent, eg; size of a pin head, can be the hardest to repair. It just depends on where it is positioned. A tight or enclosed area or double panel can make repairs a lot harder or impossible to achieve a good repair.

Q. What if I had a dent the size of a football or basket ball, can this be repaired using PDR?
A. Pending on nature and positioning. No dent is easy to remove. Some are just easier than others when you know what you're doing.
Every dent is different and treated accordingly.

Q. What do you mean by nature of dent?
A. Nature of dent is how it's placed on the panel, is it smooth and round? Does it has a crease line? any sharp or high spots? paint cracks? etc.

Q. What if the dent has a scratch or chip in the paint work?
A. Yes unfortunate. But in some cases scratches can be buffed out . But if not, then it depends on what outcome you're after in the repair.
The dent most likely can be repaired 100%, then you're left with a touch up only which would still be seen. Some people would be happy with this result, and others who would not, they would need to see a panel shop for a respray in order to do the repair 100%.

Q. What are the benefits of using PDR method of repair?
A. Majority of the times we are your best choice. For a standard dent repair, we can remove the dent 100% most of the time . We can save you time, money, your original paint work and the convenience as we come to you. Comparing to conventional panel shop methods and rates, and waiting times, we are very reasonably priced for what we can do for you .

HOW TO: Best method for taking a picture is to have the car in a shaded area eg; a garage with the roller door open, you have the daylight contrasting the shade. Stand approximately 1 metre away from the panel on a 45 degree angle, centre the dent in the camera screen, if you can have a reflection from something eg; brick work, fence line, a pole across the street, anything that can give a reflection onto the panel, stand in a way that reflection sits over the dent and take the shot. This is the best way to highlight the dent in a picture.
But don’t worry if you can’t do all the above just take a picture and send it to me I may still be able to see the dent to assess for you.
